There could be a delay in the release of your loved one, this means you can still meet with us and discuss arrangements without finalising a date and time.

If the death occurs belatedly following an incident, Sudden, Suspicious or Traumatic death in either a hospital or outwith or is regarded as an unexplained death, the Doctor may need to contact the Procurator Fiscal to seek advice regarding completing the Death Certificate (Form 11/MCCD). If the Procurator Fiscal is uncertain, they may want a further investigation into the cause of death. This may entail a Post Mortem Examination being performed. If toxicology (tissue samples which are sent to the laboratory for analysis) is required this can delay the completion of the death certificate. Once completed the death certificate will be sent with the police report to the Procurator Fiscal for them to issue clearance. Once this has been done we can then take your loved one in to our care. The Death Certificate will then be sent to the Registrar to initiate the registration process on which we will give guidance.
